Fractal Revolution
Previous Image | Next Image
Description: This hand painted fist (from a photo I took) is drawn by a fractal halftone generated by simulating diffusion limited aggregation with custom code.

Behind the clenched fist, the smoldering Twin Towers can be seen rising for their last time above the New York City skyline. The crimes of 9/11 have been used as an excuse for war after war, preying mercilessly on the fears of the people and creating more fear in the process. A message in the sky reminds us that these crimes were committed not by Muslims fanatics, but by criminals very high up in the pyramidal structure of society.

These crimes on 9/11 and the sea of lies covering them indicate clearly to me that a revolution is needed... but for a revolution this big to be successful the very foundation of society must be reconsidered. Right now American society (and much of the rest of the world) is to a large degree secretly steered by Freemasons, who proudly claim the Square and Compass as their most prominent symbols. Freemasonry dates back hundreds (with roots going back thousands) of years to a time when Euclidean geometry was thought to be the highest ideal. Now thanks to technology like computers and mavericks like Mandelbrot, we know of a new geometry which fundamentally changes the way a person views the world. This new geometry is fractals, and it has the potential of driving our society into new and exciting directions - away from the ruinous rut carved by so many straight lines.

Hi Billtavis,

I love the DLA effect applied to the image, I would like to see your tutorial about it when it is available.

thanks so much! A Beer Cup I've done lots of lower res animated gifs on Tumblr that use the same technique:  billtavis.tumblr.com

this and the mandelbrot portrait are very excellent, are there more like these?  cheers on having a brain and incorporating a great message in this one as well!   A Beer Cup

edit: though, actually, it obviously takes more than a brain to see clearly on matters like this.  even intelligent educated minds that are into math and coding like the people on this site have no problem engaging in willful ignorance with regard to things as simple as newton's third law of motion and the acceleration of gravity when their world views are on the line.

Glad you like it and that it could provoke some thoughts! I will try to come up with a tutorial on how I made it, but basically the fractal lines are contours along a special "terrain" that I generated with diffusion limited aggregation. The "seed" for the aggregation was in the shape of the fist. The final picture is drawn by varying the width of the contour lines to create the illusion of tone.
For me the picture does not display full-res until I click on it, and you'll see It's basically just black and white lines with no blending of the fist picture (but there are some gray values due to anti-aliasing).

in fact, the line of thought you provide is exactly what the professor who invited me to mexico recently told me, fractals unite the hundret year old problem of the 2 art styles: Bauhaus and Naturalism, speaking philosophical, the idea of bauhaus to control everything has lead last century to mass production and inhumane factories ... and the fractals and/or chaos theory is a unification of the "Bauhaus" and "Naturalism" styles, if you think about it further, and promote it to a general worldview that chaos theory provides, we are at the dawn of a prospering century wink ( if all goes welll )

the thumbnail pictures look interesting using that method, do you think you find some time to describe what your algorithm actually does ? if it takes the input picture somehow, it is behaving nicely in finding the contours, and creates a nice shape .

furthermore, is it really just only the black/white lines that make up the picture huh?
or is it blended somehow with the original?!
